Craftsmanship

Made in Los Angeles by a three-generation family leather atelier with over four decades of craft behind every seam. The shell is English domestic lambskin, tanned in Italy and finished on the suede side. The skin is double-dyed — a lighter base layer first, a darker second dye applied over it — then hand-buffed to achieve its distinctive distressed appearance. It is normal and intended for each garment to develop an individual patina. The double collar, inside placket, and trim are finished in smooth Napa leather in a warm cognac tone — a lustrous contrast to the matte distressed suede of the shell. Six to seven skins hand-matched per garment. Every seam sewn at exactly ten stitches per inch. The entire finished garment pressed.

The Trail Dust finish

English domestic lambskin, tanned in Italy, finished on the suede side and double-dyed for depth. The lighter base tone beneath the darker top layer reveals itself gradually with wear, giving the surface its warm, dusty, lived-in character. The hand-buffed finish means no two pieces are identical — the patina is yours to develop. The contrasting cognac Napa double collar, placket, and trim add a refined, lustrous structural detail that elevates the vest beyond a simple layering piece.

Styling

Trail Dust is one of the most versatile tones in the collection — it works with denim, olive, rust, cream, and charcoal in equal measure. Layer the Sutter over a heavy flannel shirt or a fine-gauge roll-neck, wear the double collar up for structure or folded down for a cleaner line. The cognac Napa trim ties the vest to brown boots and tan accessories. It sits naturally under a longer coat in deep winter, or stands alone as the outer layer through the shoulder seasons.

The distressed double-dye finish cannot be replicated in a factory process — it is hand-applied on each individual skin, which is why every Sutter is subtly different.
