Our Heritage
Where Lineage Becomes the Standard
Some legacies are announced. Ours was earned in a room that smelled of dressed leather and machine oil.
HYDE began long before it carried a name.
In 1964, in Anchorage, Alaska, our family began working with fur and leather. My grandfather entered the trade in the 1960s. My father expanded it in the 1980s. A hide was chosen by hand or not at all. A seam was made to survive years of wear, not a season. In a place where winter exposed every weakness, construction had to be honest.
Craftsmanship was never ornament. It was conviction.
I grew up inside that world, surrounded by skins and pelts, working hands, and the rhythm of machines. What passed from one generation to the next was more than knowledge of a trade. It was an understanding that materials matter, construction matters, and the details no one sees often matter most.
That conviction eventually carried me beyond Alaska — alone — through workshops, mills, and tanneries around the world, searching for people who approached their craft with the same discipline.
The mills the world's great houses use and trust. A few they haven't found yet.
The right maker for the material. The right material for the garment.
In 2017, I founded HYDE.
Today, HYDE creates a complete wardrobe in exceptional leather, suede, shearling, cashmere, silk, wool, denim, premium cotton, and linen — working with specialized mills, tanneries, factories, and artisans chosen for what they do best.
The geography has expanded. The standard has not.
Every garment must earn its place through its material, its construction, its purpose, and the way it makes the person wearing it feel.
We do not believe luxury needs to announce itself.
It reveals itself in the hand of the leather.
The weight of the cloth.
The precision of a seam.
The balance of a jacket.
The details considered even when no one is looking.
Three generations after that first Anchorage workshop, the principle remains remarkably simple:
Every stitch, a story. Every piece, a legacy.
Heritage. Yields. Design. Excellence.
HYDE
Today, that principle lives on in boutiques in Ketchikan, Alaska, Park City, Utah, Big Sky, Montana, and Greenwich, Connecticut.
