HYDE Bishop Field Jacket — Ace Rustic Black Italian Calfskin Nubuck | Men's Luxury USA-Made Field Jacket
Why we selected it
The Bishop Field Jacket in Ace Rustic Black is the most complex and considered piece in the Bishop family. A superior Italian calfskin pebble nubuck — textured, tonal, alive with natural character — is paired with a detachable shearling collar, a smooth cognac Napa placket and trim, and a 100% wool lining to create a jacket of extraordinary layered richness. This is a piece for the man who understands that the finest leather is the one that shows its origin, not the one that hides it.
Craftsmanship
Made in Los Angeles by a three-generation family leather atelier with over four decades of craft behind every seam. The shell is a superior calfskin nubuck, tanned in Italy — among the best a tannery has to offer. Unlike suede, which is finished on the flesh side of the skin, this calfskin is buffed on the grain side to create a fine nap while leaving the natural grain characteristics visible: the vein shadows, markings, and subtle variations that confirm this is a genuine, individually selected hide. No two jackets are identical, because no two skins are. Six to seven skins are hand-matched per garment. Every seam sewn at exactly ten stitches per inch. The entire finished garment pressed.
The Ace Rustic Black finish
Italian-tanned calfskin, buffed on the grain side to a pebbled nubuck nap. The pebbled grain effect gives the surface a depth and texture that flat black leather cannot approach — a tonal, living black that shifts with the light and the angle. The natural grain characteristics are not concealed; they are the point. This is leather that announces its authenticity.
The collar system
The Bishop's versatility comes from its detachable shearling collar. Remove it for a sleek field jacket with clean lines; add it for full cold-weather warmth and a richer silhouette. The smooth cognac Napa placket and trim frame the textured black nubuck shell with a warm, lustrous contrast — cognac against tonal black, smooth against pebbled. The 100% wool interior lining adds warmth and a final layer of considered material richness.
Styling
Worn with the shearling collar, the Bishop is a statement coat for mountain evenings and cold city days — pair it with heavy denim, moleskin, or wool trousers and a fine-gauge knit. Without the collar, it becomes a clean field jacket that layers under nothing and over everything. The tonal black works across the entire wardrobe; the cognac Napa trim and pebbled texture keep it from ever reading flat or ordinary.
Investment quality
Superior Italian calfskin nubuck of this grade — grain-side buffed, naturally charactered, constructed in Los Angeles — represents a convergence of the finest European skins and American craft. The detachable shearling collar effectively makes this two jackets in one. The cognac Napa placket and 100% wool lining are details found only in garments built to investment standards. At $2,695 the Bishop is the field jacket that contains an entire wardrobe philosophy in a single extraordinary piece.
